MAKI

 

Makis are rolls. Although many beginners try vegetarian rolls, the best maki are pieces of fish, crab or shrimp rolled with crispy tempura pieces, avocado, cucumbers, and other vegetables rolled into a sheet of rice or seaweed. The combination of soft raw fish, crispy tempura and vegetables is actually quite amazing !
 

SASHIMI

 

 

Sashimi "slabs" of raw fish with no rice or vegetable is called sashimi. Recommended for people who eat sushi often, Sashimi is any kind of fresh, raw filet of fish. The best sashimi is tuna, spicy tuna, Pacific Yellow tail and Atlantic salmon, and really any fish that you might feel like trying.

 

Temaki is a cone style hand roll, stuffed with tuna, salmon and veggies, or your choice of fillings.

 

Tempura is deep fried vegetable or seafood, delicately delicious immediately after frying in hot oil. Dip the tempura in a thin soy sauce juice, and start to eat !

 

 

 

SUSHI
Sushi Nigiri-sushi (hand shaped sushi), Oshi-sushi (pressed sushi), Maki-sushi (rolled sushi) and Chirashi-sushi (scattered sushi) are the most common forms. The changes are not in form or preparation as much as they are in the ingredients and the atmosphere where it is served. The Itamae-San (expert chef) cannot practice this art form without a minimum of 10 years of training and proven skill.
 

NIGIRI

 

 

Nigiri refers to a coat of cold vinegar flavored rice stuck with a piece of raw fish on top, usually combined with seaweed. Enjoy the crab, the tuna fish and the salmon!
 

Teriyaki is a cooking method which uses a thick steel plate to grill. Beef has to be matured, not too fresh but not too old, all the sinewy parts have to be removed and so on.

Sukiyaki is a famous Japanese dish combining soy sauce with ingredients such as boiled beef, Welsh onions, konnyaku Harusame noodles, and tofu. Sukiyaki is an extravagant home cooked meal.
